School and Healthy Eating

School is a time when children start to make independent choices about their lifestyles. School aged children learn quickly and are influenced by friends and popular trends. This is an important time to talk about and encourage healthy food habits. Involving children in planning and preparing their own lunchboxes gives them the opportunity to learn about healthy eating, and also gives them a chance to make autonomous decisions about what they will be eating during the day.

Eye care at School

Dear Parents/Guardians,

My name is Marrwa Hafez and I am the optometrist/director of Eyecare at school. I am pleased to offer you our free eyecare service in Term 2- 2017. Eyecare at school makes quality eyecare more accessible by coming to your child’s school.

Eyecare at school is a unique mobile eyecare service that offers Victorian students comprehensive and high quality eyecare at school. Please note that this is not a screening program. We offer comprehensive eye examinations that can detect far more than a basic vision-screen.

Quality eyecare is one way of ensuring your child reaches their full learning potential. Good vision is especially important for school children as it affects their educational, behavioural and social development.

Did you know that one in five Australian children suffers from an undetected vision problem?

Early detection of these problems is crucial, as some vision problems can have life-long and irreversible effects. Parents and caregivers often do not have their child’s eyes checked as the child may not realise or complain that how they see is not normal.

Our service is available free of charge to all Medicare card holders (we bulk bill). Our optometrists are also fully qualified, therapeutically endorsed and have current ‘working with children’ clearance.

The eye tests are performed at school and take approximately 15-20 minutes. At the end of the eye exam your child will receive a report that summarises their eye health, relevant prescription for glasses (when needed) and informs you of any need for further assessment or specialist referral.

To ensure your child does not miss out on our service, please complete and sign the attached form, and return to the office within 1 week from receiving this form.

Yours sincerely,
Marrwa Hafez
